It's a 30" Mini-Speed Board! Designed for bomming hills and enjoying it at speeds.
It's set up with Paris 180's and Bennett Aligators, a wicked combination. The mirror finish on the bamboo is beautiful.
It's has 2 layers of fiberglass and 3 layers of bamboo and has 0 flex!

Well the board making drought is over, I finally got my dremel back from the shop. So I've glassed both sides of the board now cut out the drop through's and I took it for a test.
Down conception hill no less. (Perfect name for my first test run of boards.)

I've never ridden a drop through board before.... HOLY COW that was stable, i thought changing the geometry of the trucks by putting the board on the bottom would only make a small difference. Boy was I wrong. I rode down conception on my flex 5 vanguard with avilas, it was a nice ride, not too fast but fast enough to have to really lean into the curves.
Then I rode down on this board with no grip mind you... it was so stable I didn't even think about braking... (On the vanguard I got a little bit of wobbles so I air-braked a little.)

Also I would note that the Randall trucks on this thing have the hangers flipped, which adds to stability.

So this board is made out of a scrap piece of 1/2 Baltic birch and glass that's it. I think I'm def going to have to recreate the shape and add some concave to it. Not much though I preferred how forgiving the board was with no concave.

I cant Stress enough Always use a NOISH approved mask when using polyester resin, the stuff is nasty. also purchase some goggles, if you get the hardener MEKP in your eyes there are no second chances! you will be blind for the rest of your life!

Here is one side glassed and ready to go . first put a fairly thick coat of resin on the wood to allow the deepest penetration, then apply your pre-cut strip of glass fabric to the top. I used a plastic $0.50 putty knife and it worked perfectly. Next I smoothed out the fabric on the board with the knife and poured a bunch more resin on the top and spread that around until the entire fabric touching the board was completely see through. I left allot of extra resin on the top so I can sand it down and create a totally smooth finish! No fabric texture.

I'm building a new board. it's going to be a drop through speed board.
1/2" Baltic Birch plywood and a layer of fiberglass on the top and bottom of the board for stability.
I'm going to try to chronicle the steps for everyone!
Step 1: The template. I taped together 3 11x17" pieces of paper and folded them in half. I drew one side and then folded it down the center line and traced out the other side. this ensured perfect symmetry.

Next I used my jigsaw to cut out the board.

This handy little tool is a dremel attachment router with 1/8" corner rounding bit. Make the Curves around the edges perfect.

Here's the new awsome board.
It's made from 2 sheet's of 1/4 birch laminated together to give it just a tiny Camber.
I created this board to bring on a trip with me a portable 24" mini long board.
Love the ride, super smooth, and with a 22" wheel base on randal 180's it turns super sharp!

Hello World
Today i got new wheels for my skateboard.

I love them 75mm Avila wheels by 3dm, 76a duro.

These are amazing wheels to ride on, they are big enough to run over just about anything out there, and the grip like nothing else. but when i want them to slide they are so easy to slide. I'm new to sliding and I was never able to break out into a real good slide on my 84a 70's flashback's, but with these I pulled a 180 slide first time! They broke like butter.

Long Board Slide Gloves DIY Home Made

I have created some long board Skate boarding slide gloves.
These gloves are designed to allow you to put your hands down on the pavement for stability when you are sliding. Very cool and easy to make plus very useful.
Materials,
Gloves - $2.99 OSH
Cutting Board - 0.99 99cent store
Industirial Velcro - $6.00 OSH
2 Ton Expoxy - $2.49 Osh
Total $12.47

I started by cutting out the cutting board into a shape that would fit the palm of the gloves. I also rounded the corners and beveled the edge so they would not catch on the cement.
I then tried to epoxy the cutting board directly to the glove but appearantly the epoxy does not stick well to the cutting board material. but on the plus side the epoxy sunk into the leather of the glove creating a perfect plastic surface to mount the velcro on.

I applied two applications of expoxy to the glove, to create a very solid surface to mount the velcro on. I Applied the expoxy to the back of the cuting board shape and then clamped it very hard to the glove, this really helped the epoxy sink in.

Next I applied the velcro to the back of the cutting board and then to the gloves epoxied surface.

Stick the two together and your ready to roll.

and now you can test different materials for sliding just cut them into the same shape and apply velcro.

Loaded Vanguard Edge Repair

I ran into a problem with hippie flips, because I'm not the best at them I often land the board deck down! which has been eating up the nice edges of the board.So I decided to fix that by adding a bit of epoxy to the boards top most edges to protect the nice bamboo.I used 2 ton 5 min epoxy.

Start by cleaning the board first, don't want to trap that dirt under the Epoxy, I found just water and a scrub brush works just fine!
I also sanded the edges a little bit to remove the small peices of splintering wood.

With the board cleaned I mixed up the 2 ton expoxy, on a cutting board I used for creating slide gloves :-)

Then I added the epoxy to each of the 4 most uper corners of the board, it's clear so you can's see it when your riding.

I also added some epoxy to the nose and tail of the board to protect it when I stand it up!

The Bamboo is indescructable but I found it can "frey easily allong the grain if your hard on your board like I am) This small epoxy fix took care of any problems!

Monkey lost his Groove!

The Brave little Mr. Scream crashed into the wall one to many times.
We feard that he might have a conclusion, of the liver.
The only logical explanation was to operate.
This is a teaching hospital so we have documented the process for learning.

We Put Mr. Scream under and began the operation to salvage the unconscious liver. You see he just can't live with a broken liver.
You can see here we are making the initial incision in his Screamer cavity.

You can see the liver here, it looks intact, but we will not know the cause without further inspection.

Here we are removing the liver.

Here is Mr. Screamer Opened on the table while we inspect the Liver for Problems.
As you can see from this image the Nucleotides of the liver are shot, He's going to need a liver transport.
Unfourtnatuly without a working Neculotide Mr. Screamer will not make it through this operation

Let's remember Mr. Screamer for all the good times he had, flying through the air at the office screatching at the top of his lungs, as if to say, "I'm super monkey, to the rescue"
RIP Mr. Screamer.

UX Design Speakers at Google

UX Design Speakers at Google:

This was a great event where the three discussed panel style elements of User Experience design for 2.0.

Some of the key points I found Interesting were.

1. Google rolls out features to users over time, so they are not bombarded with information right up front. it's a common mistake of web designers and even product designers as well, stuff as many features into one package as possible. In this day and age there is way too much information being bombarded at us at 100 miles and hour, and the question becomes how do we sort through it? Services where the UI is designed to get things done with the minimal ammount of features is what consumers are choosing now. This segways into my next point about perceived time and effectiveness.

2. A study was done to measure the effect of speed vs. satisfaction of a website, what they found was that there was no correlation between speed and Satisfaction, but rather the users were satisfied when their desired task was accomplished EASILY with speed factors falling a distant sec.

3. Finally they talked about the ineffectiveness of surveying people on user interface models. they will often say one thing and do another. They thought that observation and live studies were the best methods of evaluating a user experience study.

Higher Education

Yesterday I learned about a program at Stanford university that fits the bill for what I'm interested in, it's called the Learning Design and Technology Masters program.  frog has hired several students from that program to be designers and design analysts, and the 1 year masters program gives you allot of freedom regarding creating your own curriculum.

The senior projects look great and I'm very interested in the education model, and how design and technology plays a huge roll in that.

My hobby

I have a Jetta Wolfsburg edition from 2001 and I really enjoy driving it, with a 1.8t turbo charged engine it can really haul. I've been having some problems lately with it and I'm searching for the solution, I have a loss of boost and the computer tells me the engine is running lean. I think it is most likely the Mass Air Flow sensor going bad but I did a few tests and it seems to preform close to the standards, I'm not sure how exact a science this is. But at RedLine the MAF is measuring 90 g/s of air flowing into the engines when the stock configuration should be around 120g/s. I'm going to try a few more tests.

Summer is quickly Approaching

Hello All,

With summer quickly approaching I have been working in the garden furiously to get some delicious veggies planted. I've Rota tilled the yard installed sprinklers, (the drip kind), built the first furrows, and seeded the front patch with grass seed. I rented a very small grass tiller called the Mantis tiller and it worked wonders on my small patch of yard, churning the very clay like dirt to a perfect aerated pulp. I mixed in 1 years worth of organic rabbit droppings for fertilizer along with some sand to help counter the incredible clay mud our area is known for. But I'm most proud of the sprinkler system, for very (I mean very) cheap about $50 the sprinkler system is in and even has an automatic timer. It's time to plant the back yard with wonderful veggies and fruits. My finance planed some gardenia bushes next to the front door and boy o boy do they smell good.

I'll keep you posted on the garden and perhaps post a few pictures when i get around to it!

In life I have discovered that things tend to move much more quickly as we get older, perhaps it is because technology is advancing or our bodies are no longer able to cope with the constant change as we get older, or it's the radical notion that the Earth is slowly getting closer to the sun and moving faster and faster (NOT)!

But what ever it is for you I have noticed one key constant, and that is becoming an expert in one subject is still easy not a daunting task! We all have natural strengths and we should focus on them, we will become experts and quickly too!

Say it with me:

I am an expert!

So today I intend to be an expert in one thing and one thing only! But I'm going to be the best at it!
